Checkatrade Trophy or Promotion Celebrations - Poll
Checkatrade Trophy or Promotion Celebrations - Poll
This is a poll about which celebrations would have been better.
We didn't win the cup but promotion is obviously within our grasp now.
So, the question is - which would give Sunderland fans the biggest celebration resulting in the best party?
I am going for the Checkatrade Trophy and the reason is simple, our expectation is promotion and nothing else will do.
Winning a Wembley final since 1973 would have been the cherry on the top of the cake and I reckon the party for that would have been far bigger.
Promotion will pass us by with a much smaller celebration in my opinion but what do you think?

Re: Checkatrade Trophy or Promotion Celebrations - Poll
You could be right, we all had plans of going down the town on the Monday night but that didn't happen because of the defeat. Had we been in a position like Luton are now we would have possibly had an open-top bus celebration as well. However, I don't think we would have had the street parties like we did in 1973 because the community is not like it was then.
If promotion was a REAL possibility (like Luton's chances) then the Checkatrade Trophy would have given us a massive party. But winning the cup while we are in this position would have still given us better parties. We will get promotion I have no doubt now and we will all just shake hands and that will be that. Therefore the cup would edge it on the celebration scale

Tough call but maybe the cup would have given us room for a celebration.

At first this was a no brainier until I read the question properly. If we won the cup then yes I think I would have celebrated like there's no tomorrow. On the day we get promotion the Sunderland supporters will celebrate though not as much as if we brought the cup back.

Re: Checkatrade Trophy or Promotion Celebrations - Poll
Considering the celebrations in Trafalgar Square and London in general I would say the Checkatrade Trophy already won it
Sunderland fans have already had the celebrations and the forthcoming promotion party won't be anywhere near that.

Me and the lads will celebrate promotion this year without doubt. Now then would the trophy have been a better celebration ......... hmmmmmm let me think. Well, we celebrate every Sunderland win
Go on then I think we would have an extra pint or two had we won the tinpot cup
I think that we will still go overboard when promotion is confirmed though.

Good question since you avoid saying which is the best to have - cup or promotion. Party-wise - the cup. Satisfaction-wise - promotion. So for a party it would have been the Checkatrade tinpot thing
I might have the day off today!

Re: Checkatrade Trophy or Promotion Celebrations - Poll
This season has had us biting finger nails and nervous through whole matches even though we've only lost two all season.
Promotion is a must but I agree we have had a massive party already without winning the trophy so what would have happened had we won it
I voted for the trophy but I repeat that promotion is a must.
