How many players do SAFC need this January?

Phil Parkinson inherited this squad of players - the position we are in is not his fault.
Like us who thought they were a good bunch that just needed a tweaking here and there, they are obviously not!
So, how many players do we need to make things click into place here and how will this happen?
We simply will not be bringing in loads of players - fact.
We will also need to sell.

Will Grigg is not worth 4 million quid and we are going to make a massive loss on this one should we sell him but he is a candidate to sell.
Sell Wyke if we can get him fit, but who would buy him?

It's a difficult situation to be in but if we assume the midfield is good enough, then we need another three brave defenders who know how to defend because what I see week in and week out is very poor defending.
Then we need two pacey players who can get in the box and cause a threat.

Parky is not thick, he knows this league but I reckon he will go for 5 players in this window but only after he offloads a few weak links.

Forward line would score more and defense concede less if we get rid off the geriatrics in midfield and the cart horses. So basically everyone bar o'nien fits that criteria.

We have a difference of opinion here like

You build up a team from the back.
Will Grigg has the perfect platform to become a hero, he looks like he doesn't want a career in football so get rid, loss or no loss.

11 better players, that actually want to play for the shirt.

It's true that Phil Parkinson says that some don't want to play for Sunderland and they will be away come January.
If the club is as open as they say they are why not tell us who doesn't want to play and as a consequence will leave the club.
Is it that he feels we might boo them?

I think some appreciate the club and would love to play in front of our supporters every week.
I very much doubt we will be needing 11 new players though.

Phil Parkinson has already said we need about 5 new players.

Our defence is terrible. The worst I've ever seen. The Burton game was typical of the deficiencies. I am sure Parky can see what's needed and hope he has the influence to bring in some good'ns.
