I concur.
They cannot extend the SoL until a footbridge is built, this was set in concrete some time ago.
Of course, those in power can change their minds and do U-turns when it's convenient for them.

They can but I doubt they will for this project because of the crowds over the Monkwearmouth Bridge.

Being from Southwick we would just call it the town bridge or when we were younger the green bridge.

According to Wikipedia it is called the Wearmouth Bridge but was preceded by the Monkwearmouth Bridge (presumably a change of name after a facelift with the arch? )
Interestingly enough though, the railway bridge has this information on Wikipedia - Monkwearmouth Railway Bridge (officially Monkwearmouth Bridge, also called Wearmouth Railway Bridge or Sunderland Railway Bridge).
