Last Wear built ships
Last Wear built ships
From memory I believe that the very last batch of ships built on the River Wear did not leave the river on completion. I seem to remember a joke going around saying that the only things on earth visible from space were the Great Wall of China and the line of recently built ferry ships in the River Wear. Anyone know when they left and why their departure was delayed.

Re: Last Wear built ships
If I'm not mistaken there were 6 ships built for a Scandinavian country and then they pulled out of the deal.
Whether there was any legal action taken, I don't know.
The ships were stuck on the River Wear for a while until a buyer was sought.
To be honest, that's all I can remember about them.

Ah man, I just can't remember much about this, just that the deal fell through and the ships were stuck here.
There will be someone who knows a lot about all this.

Re: Last Wear built ships
Very interesting post about the last days of Sunderland's shipbuilding heritage.
Sorry I can't add to what has been said except perhaps that in order to get rid of them, weren't they sold at rock bottom prices?

Re: Last Wear built ships
They were no good just floating about on the river so someone would have got a bargain.
