I see the vultures that are the online industry have enjoyed picking up some bargains imo.

It is such a shame but maybe Covid just accelerated the inevitable anyway because online shopping was taking over.
What was that you said again?

It is a shame but Sunderland city centre is like other cities centres and was always going to suffer because of the internet.thingamajig wrote: ↑05 Apr 2021, 12:11 It is such a shame but maybe Covid just accelerated the inevitable anyway because online shopping was taking over.
The place probably bottomed out and stayed pretty much stable until this coronavirus pandemic hit us and then boom, it became a ghost town like the rest.
It's not all doom and gloom though because in the past shoppers were always too busy and always rushing around with hardly any social activity.
If we are doing more shopping online then the city centres could become social hubs and this might even be better.
So there you go, a more socially interactive city centre is just waiting around the corner and if the council can get to grips with that they can be forerunners.

Good post and I agree that the town/city centres as we once knew them are finished, so yes, there will be fresh ideas needed.Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑05 Apr 2021, 13:02It is a shame but Sunderland city centre is like other cities centres and was always going to suffer because of the internet.thingamajig wrote: ↑05 Apr 2021, 12:11 It is such a shame but maybe Covid just accelerated the inevitable anyway because online shopping was taking over.

Hopefully, they can bring down the cost of a pint and open more pubs with more controls over rowdy behaviour, of course!

The government can do what they like to help but bringing down the cost of a pint will be out of the question I suspect.
