New Footbridge Across The River Wear
I got yet another leaflet today and it tells us that Galley's Gill is closed temporarily because they are building a new River Wear footbridge.
This will run from the old Vaul site to the Sheepfolds which is where the Stadium of Light stands.
This is good news for those walking to and from the football matches as it will save a load of time for many.
Maybe they will not have to close the Wearmouth Bridge off like they currently do.
No date is available yet for the bridge's completion.

It is about time and should have been done when the Stadium of Light was built.
At the time the cost was about £6m if I remember rightly but it will cost much more now.

Brilliant news and will save me a load of time once it's finished. Cutting out the crowd going over the town bridge will be a good thing for kids.

Re: New Footbridge Across The River Wear
I only go to the games when I can nowadays but when I do go this will help a lot.
I seem to remember that the Stadium of Light could not be given permission to extend any further until another bridge was built.
Here's to the next extension when we are right up there again

Only problem now, is will we ever use it? The stadium isn't going to be full anytime soon if this government have their way.

Not full stadiums, that's for sure. I'll be in an old people's home before we get crowds back at this rateNockya wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021, 09:25Who knows what's around the corner!Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑07 Apr 2021, 18:17

^ This - I really don't know how they got away with not building it when the stadium of light can hold 50,000 people. Probably more when the concerts are on.

Re: New Footbridge Across The River Wear
It will have been the money at the time but now the Vaux development is underway and the new civic centre then the money is available.
I would love to see the cost now.
