MORE details have been released as investigations continue into the deaths of two girls in the River Wear.
The bodies of Tonibeth Purvis, 15, from Barmston, Washington, and Chloe Fowler, 14, from Shiney Row, were pulled from the river after an extensive search.
The teenagers had got into difficulties in the river, near Fatfield, just before 3pm on the 23rd July.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what has happened.
This morning, Superintendent Alan Veitch, of Sunderland Area Command, said: “This is an absolute tragedy and our deepest sympathies are with the families of the two girls at what must be a devastating time for them.

Re: Two teenage girls drowned in the River Wear
That's right, the currents and sheer volume of water that flows down the river make it very dangerous to unsupervised kids. The trouble is the River Wear is a beautiful river and very tempting. It's like that all the way upstream too.
Very sad, my heart goes out to their families - RIP little uns.

That's pretty bad that like and a massive disrespect to the girls who drowned and the families involved.Gambling Man wrote:Some kids were in the same stretch of water over the last few days!
