Poor, poor kids. I often look at the Victoria Hall Memorial as I walk through Mowbray Park. We should never forget these shocking events in history.

What was that you said again?

I walked past the Victoria Hall monument the other day with some company I had up from London and I pointed it out. While I was just going to walk past it as I always have done my company was very interested and so we stopped for a while to take it in. There wasn't too much information beside it but enough to go on. I felt a little humbled standing in front of it.

Not really, its in a place closest to where the Victoria Hall stood. Anywhere else would have been inappropriate.

Here is Victoria Hall in Toward road so you can see the relationship ;)

My bad, I must admit
I really got the position of the Victoria Hall mixed up.
Actually I got the position of Toward road mixed up so I put it down to confusion :?

Its good that Sunderland Council managed to restore the monument and I think its glass structure is fitting. I get a lump in the throat when I look at the Victoria Hall Monument. The thought of the hardship at the time combined with the loss of a child is too unbearable to think of. To think, all the children went out for that day was a bit of entertainment.

Yes the Victoria Hall Memorial is in the correct position.
I would have expected that there was much discussion in the Sunderland Council as to where it should be placed a long time ago.
A lot of visitors will not see it if they don't venture over that side of Mowbray Park but you really can't put the monument in a better place.
I also don't think directions to it would not be appropriate.

The more you read into this disaster the more you understand the absolute horror that occurred at the time. The Victoria Hall disaster was something that must have touched almost everyone in Sunderland at the time. Its very difficult to think of almost 200 children losing their lives in one cruel blow. The memorial has stood the test of time and its good to see that the council have maintained it. The Victoria Hall memorial is a fitting reminder of what happened on that fateful day.

I wonder how many families right now have a distant relative who was affected by the Victoria Hall disaster. I wonder if many people in Sunderland have even looked into this.

The city council have done well with the monument so well done to them.
