£3.5m Upgrade For High Street West, Sunderland
£3.5m Upgrade For High Street West, Sunderland.
Works are scheduled to start on the upgrade to High Street West, Sunderland in early 2016 with a timetable to last until September 2016.
After the investment to Keel Square and the St. Mary's Boulevard, Sunderland City Council are hoping to encourage more visitors to the city centre. The new improvements will make shopping in the city even more pleasurable. The development will be about making the High Street West area more welcoming for pedestrians.
There will be new paving, new shrubs and flowers, better signage, more seating facilities and better lighting.
There will be even better traffic management around Bridge Street and Fawcett Street which is connected to High Street West. This will allow even greater accessibility around that area.
The area from Bridge Street right up past the Sunderland Empire and onto St. Michaels Way junction will be improved. The council are doing their best to help create a far better shopping experience in the High Street West area. Together with the other recent developments in the area around Keel Square you can't help but feel that just being in that locality will be pleasurable, especially in the summer.

Any improvements will be welcome surely.
I like High Street West for shopping when I go to the town.
Even in the winter its ok but obviously the snow and ice make anywhere a hurdle.
On that side of Sunderland there are a lot of developments and when the Vaux site (bless them ) is up and running then there will be a hive of activity over that area of the city so well done Sunderland Council
