Lib-Dems Say Some Silly Things
I actually was warming to Niall Hodson with his little campaigns in the Millfield, Thornholme and City Centre until a small but significant piece in his latest leaflet.
In it he says that he believes those trees planted in St Mary's Way were a waste of money :weeble:
This summer will see those trees blossom great because they have had a year to get established.
My point is where could the council have saved money on that?
He is claiming that £180,000 was spent on this, but not just spent - WASTED!
Now then, what does he want - no trees?
Is that what it would be like under Lib-Dems - bland everything?
Oh Niall you have just knocked yourself back quite a bit.
I saw that small piece as a whinge for nothing in order try and get an extra vote or two, but believe me, that can work both ways.

Re: Lib-Dems Say Some Silly Things
Of course we needed St. Mary's Way landscaping.
Those trees were a necessary expense - I can't understand some people who harp on about them.
The potential councillor should have praised the council on how good the place looks now.
We don't want to become a concrete jungle like Milton Keynes.

Re: Lib-Dems Say Some Silly Things
I really hope that St Mary's Way looks good this year.
The landscaping was only put in place last year and it takes a season or two to strike.
Last year was a bit drab but I must admit that if you have potential councillors moaning about this then I would challenge him on the doorstep.
Here you have a main thoroughfare in Sunderland.
As people come over the Wearmouth Bridge for instance, this is one of the first place they will see.
Then there is all that development around Keel Square and the Vaux site which will bring many others to that area.
Then there is the dual carriageway from Nissan to the docks which will take this area in and will be widely used by other visitors.
To say that landscaping is a waste of money is ridiculous and Niall Hodson's should come here to explain that leaflet.
Yes, in reality, all we needed was the road system to relieve traffic flow but for Heaven's sake we also need to have aesthetics as well.

Re: Lib-Dems Say Some Silly Things
I think it was a cheap piece of politics to be honest.
I drove down St Mary's Way yesterday and I thought the place looked brilliant with the trees.
You have to imagine what they will look like this year as compared to the first year they were planted.
It looks really good down there.
Shame on the Lib-Dems in Sunderland!

I might have the day off today!

The whole area around Keel Square and the Vaux site is taking ages to take shape.
However, brightening the place up with the landscaping is a must.
Sunderland Council have spent a lot of money on the trees and shrubs but those trees are mature ones which is exactly what is needed.
I don't think it was a waste of money.

Re: Lib-Dems Say Some Silly Things
I did vote for Niall Hodson in the end, well we only had Labour and Conservative and the Greens
Niall stood for the Lib-Dems and won by a big margin.
He has worked so hard to get the seat so good luck to him.
