There's the old joke about the folly from someone who works for a window company:
"My next job is to double glaze Penshaw Monument"

Not!

What was that you said again?
Re: Penshaw Monument
Never mind about the double glazing, its about time they put a roof on Penshaw Monument. When you get trapped up there in the rain there's not much shelter
..... and Sunderland, the underdogs, are in the lead!

Re: Penshaw Monument
Penshaw Monument better hurry up and get its roof on with the double glazing as it is rather draughty and winter is coming.

Re: Penshaw Monument
This video has some breath taking views of Penshaw monument - possibly captured using a drone. I like the accompanying music as well.
Here is an advert for Penshaw Monument from an American visiting Sunderland from Washington DC. The musical accompaniment to this is the Sugar Plum Fairy:
This is a video of someone's day out at Penshaw Monument, it looks like they were one of the lucky ones to get to the top as well:
If you want to see Penshaw Monument being blown up by meteors in a big explosion well here it is from someone with too much time on their hands:
Let me assure everyone who saw the above video that Penshaw Monument is still standing and that a meteor shower never happened at Penshaw Hill with the exception of millions of years ago perhaps.

Re: Penshaw Monument
Has anyone ever counted how many steps there are up to Penshaw Monument?
Coming down the hill is ok its climbing the steps to the top that's the killer.
I think they could provide an oxygen tent up there for those short of breath.
The view from the top of the hill is stunning and you can see in every direction, north, south, east and west.
There is so much to see with a decent pair of binoculars.
