Sunderland has a population close to 300,000.
There's around 1,000 people who have it or recovered from it.
That's around 0.3% of the people so around 1 in 300 people.
Most people will not know anyone who has it out of those figures.
Is that good or bad? Doesn't help this herd immunity theory, if that's what the government policy initially was..

At the end of the day we are all going to come into contact with it in some way and that's why herd immunity is the only way to go.
When restrictions are lifted, more people will catch it.
They are just protecting the NHS - that's all, nothing more and nothing less because without the lockdown, imagine how many people would be dead now.
We just need to shield the vulnerable until we can get effective treatment and or a vaccine.
I've said this from day one.

The government have said this from day one.

Its obvious that the lockdown is not to stop it, otherwise we wouldn't be looking for treatments and a vaccine.

Their mantra wouldn't be to save the NHS if it was to stop the virus instead.

If everyone on earth stopped in for 2-4 weeks and nobody mixed with anyone else, it would disappear for good because it would have no host.
A lot of other illnesses would die out too.

Which is why these wet markets need to be stopped.
There was a report a few days back saying they were still happening and just cracking on as normal.

It'll happen again if they don't stop this practice imo

Wuhan keeping wild animals in cages right next to each other, then killing them in the same area with no consideration for food safety or any diseases these animals could be carrying.

They're asking for more trouble by keeping this going

I reckon it's those diseases which are the worst and most dangerous.

The other two were bad and one had a 50% mortality rate but the symptoms showed up immediately and they were able to stamp it out quickly.
That is unlike the recent version of coronavirus which although has a low mortality rate, the symptoms might not show up for days while you pass it on.
In some cases you pass it on and never get symptoms.
