Can we use out of date toothpaste?

Post by Trish »

We were cleaning out the cupboards and under one we found a brand new tube of Sensodyne toothpaste.
The expiry date is 2013/12 so that is December 2013.
Can we use this because it's still looks good?

Why is there an expiry date?

I think they have to put dates on things like these to be on the side of the law.

I wouldn't worry too much about it but obviously if you think something is causing a problem just stop using it.
Problems I am talking about would be mouth ulcers or similar but I would use it.

What was that you said again?

It will be fine @Trish.
It's the same with food, they are just a guide, it's recommended to use the smell test for food.
In the case of toothpaste, I reckon it might be a case of a taste test

I think they are concerned about germs and stuff that could colonise things after the expiry date should the preservatives fail.
If in doubt, don't use it but I would certainly not throw it away without trying it if it was mine.

As an update, a few of us tried it as it looked normal after breaking the seal.
It tastes OK and up to now all seems good.

Never throw anything away if it can be used.
I can't see why this can't be used as long as the seal was intact which clearly it was.

It can't be used though.
In the past I would just nip off the odd bit of mould but I since heard that the bit of mould has very long threads going a long way into the bread :o
