UK could give British citizenship to 3 million Hong Kong residents

The UK could give British citizenship to 3 million Hong Kong residents after China has interfered with the agreements yet again.
Protesters in Hong Kong are on the streets regularly demonstrating against the dictators on the mainland.
China is trying very hard to get the people of the former British colony to conform to their ways but the islanders want to maintain the freedoms and democracy which we left them.

When Britain handed over Hong Kong to China in 1997 I think there was a treaty which says that there should be no drastic changes for the next 50 years.
China is bullying the Hong Kong people and it needs to stop.

If China continues their aggression then the UK has said that it will take 3 million residents.
China is not honouring their agreement so the UK has a responsibility to those people we left behind.

I am against immigration as a rule but this situation is different.
Those people are loyal to this country and don't want to be ruled by China.
I think the UK government has been very quick to respond and put their minds at rest.
In my opinion we can't stand by and allow those people who have enjoyed the benefits of democracy under British rule to be swallowed up by the Chinese dictators.

Long live Hong Kong - we love you

It's going to be difficult to house 3 million people all at once but I think you are right and that we do have responsibilities.

I just read the following news article:

Stick them on one of our islands and tell them to recreate Hong Kong here.

Their leader is telling us to mind our own business..

Maybe if you didn't treat people like crap, and invent ridiculous laws, we wouldn't be using the opportunity to give honk Kong citizens the chance to start afresh.

As long as they come here and contribute, fine by me.

3 million refugees in effect :o
OK I am on board because of what China is doing over there, it's just a shame that those people are not honourable.
China might not like our offer of a refuge here for the people of Hong Kong but I can't see them stopping people if they want to leave because the whole world would turn on them - apart from North Korea and a few other backward countries.
3 million though :o
It would be a challenge but if it's what we have to do to honour our part of the agreement then so be it.

Expect a few twists and turns before this comes to a head but China will not back down.
They see the UK on the map and think small but they really have no idea of our influence around the world.
They should look at our friends in Australia if they want to think "big country".
If China thinks it can bully us or the people in Hong Kong they have another thing coming.

They're already threatening us..

China has said it will take countermeasures against the UK should it grant residency to Hongkongers fleeing a harsh new national security law, promising that the UK would “bear all consequences”.

🙄 They are definitely bully's.

So, China doesn't back down and the population of Hong Kong fight but lose, then what?
How on earth could those people possibly leave because the mainland would just cut the place off from the outside world?

Tricky situation really but I can't see the Chinese going too far because something will give.

This thread gives me a little hope for humanity
I never thought I would see the day when people agree that we should take in 3 million political refugees.
