Ban on plastic straws and cotton buds kicks in

Post by cam »

On Thursday this week these items made out of plastic will be banned - straws, stirrers and cotton buds.
We use 4.7 billion plastic straws and 1.8 billion plastic-stemmed cotton buds in England alone!
All this waste plastic has to go somewhere and a lot of waste plastic breaks down and finds it's way into the food chain and whole pieces can kill marine animals etc.
They will still be available for medical purposes and alternatives will be available for others.

I might have the day off today!

It didn't make sense to throw away stuff like that but there's loads of other things we need to act on especially now with disposable PPE.

Anyone could see those things were going to be lying all over and who would want pick them up later?

We'll still need things like cotton buds so what will the new material be or are they disappearing altogether :headscratch:

Wood is sustainable so why not that.
Cotton buds on the end of party sausage sticks.

We've gone from one thing to another.

Masks and gloves thrown away, disposable wipes, and you know some will flush them.

These things should have been wood from the beginning but we know plastic is bad for the environment so why do they still persist in making plastic stuff. Further down the line it will be something else we need to take care of. Why can't they just not get it right from the beginning and these masks are a common site everywhere now all over the ground.

Gloves as well... And disinfectant wipes blowing all over the place.

Some people must wipe absolutely everything down they touch outside, then just throw it on the ground.
