Re: Great Britain and the Olympic Games 2016
We have been too 'busy' watching the Rio Olympics that we have had to order food rather than cook it ourselves.
All the family need to run off the results of that
Do we care?
I don't think so, especially if Great Britain finish second in the medals table.
I have just heard on the television that these games are the most successful by the British Olympic team for over 100 years.
We have passed the medals haul we got in the London Olympics in 2012.

Re: Great Britain and the Olympic Games 2016
Great Britain came second in the Olympics medals table behind USA and above China.
They are the most successful 'away' team games ever for Team GB.
We finished on 27 gold medals but we could have easily ended on more than 30 we were that close.
GB is a sporting power thanks to lottery funding, apparently

Anyone remember the Russians and East Germans dominating the medals table before the drugs test were introduced

Re: Great Britain and the Olympic Games 2016
Most of the British sportsmen and women who took part in the Rio Olympics arrived home yesterday.
What a site to see all that talent getting off the plane.
British Airways as well

I might have the day off today!
Re: Great Britain and the Olympic Games 2016
The best bit about Great Britain coming second in the medals table was that we achieved it through merit.
Years ago there was a few communist countries that were winning an unusual amount of Olympic medals.
Now that the drugs test are rigidly enforced, that sort of thing is long gone.
Not that I am trying to associate the illegal use of drugs with an unusual amount of medals
But its true and even prescription drugs have been classed as suspicious!
We should be grateful that these sporting events have cleaned up their act.
Team GB came second through hard work and persistence and we should be proud of that.
It was our best away performance as well

Re: Great Britain and the Olympic Games 2016
The Japanese will be investing heavily in their sportsmen and women for the next few years.
I think they may cope third in the medals table but I am hoping that the Brits will come second again.
Hopefully the lottery investment we have in the UK will continue as it has because it was that investment alone which saw our medal haul soar.
