Tesco Stopped 24 Hour Trading - Wheatsheaf
Tesco Stopped 24 Hour Trading - Wheatsheaf
I have not long been in after a trip to Tesco over the Wheatsheaf.
The place has stopped its 24 hour trading.
I am not sure if this is a nationwide thing but I relied on this Tesco Extra store for my late night shopping.
Its hours are now 6am to 11pm but its Sunday hours remain the same as normal.
Well that was a wasted trip.
Anyone know of another 24 hour supermarket in the Sunderland area?

Hi Trish, try Asda because they are still open 24 hours.
Here is their address:
Asda Sunderland Superstore,
Leechmere Road Industrial Estate,
Grangetown,
Sunderland,
SR2 9TT
Hope this helps.

Re: Tesco Stopped 24 Hour Trading - Wheatsheaf
Tesco has only been open for a year there?
So they must think its more economic to shut the doors overnight.
No doubt there will be less staff to pay.
I went past there in the early hours and all their lights were on.
I used to love shopping at Asda in Boldon through the night but that was over 10 years ago.

The Asda at Grangetown is open 24 hours still.
Shame about Tesco throwing the towel in as they will still have staff working there, stocking shelves etc and their lights will still burn.
Oh well, they will give what little trade there is in the wee small hours to Asda.
I am not sure if that makes sense but there will be people who can only do their shopping after midnight.

It will be a cost cutting exercise no doubt.
I can't understand why they would want to close Tesco at 11pm for because it is on one of the main routes through Sunderland.
It hasn't had time to become a favourite of everyone yet.
I have been in there after midnight but that was a recent thing and was planning on further late night visits.
Asda has been open 24 hours in two places on Wearside for a long, long time.
This has got me puzzled.
Oh well, I hope that Tesco make the savings they need, every little counts I suppose

I wasn't happy last night :weeble:
I went to Asda about 1am and it was closed.
I didn't realise it was a bank holiday.
The petrol sign was lit up as well as the shop lights.
Damn!

The place is still lit up like a Christmas tree throughout the night. I have passed it every night since the hours changed.
