Not been to the sea front since the illuminations, do the council leave any lights up there for Christmas?

Yes, they leave them on along the sea front in the Roker area.
There are Christmas lights in Whitburn and Cleadon villages too.
The Christmas tree in Cleadon is canny big.

There are some people's houses in Sunderland lit up far better than some village greens :lol:

There's one in Marley Pots with a garden lit up better than Roker Park :P
