Gillingham 1-4 Sunderland (22/08/2018)
Gillingham 1-4 Sunderland (22/08/2018)
English League One - Priestfield Stadium - evening kick off 7:45pm
Sunderland have played four league games and are now undefeated.
We have won three and drew one so not a bad return.
Gillingham opened the scoring on 3 minutes but Sunderland equalised in a minute.
Then two quick goals by Sunderland gave us a two goal cushion.
We got a fourth in the second half.
The scoreline flatters us a little.
Until we got the third goal we looked very good for the money but they did take the foot off the gas.
Gillingham had loads of opportunities to score but didn't take their chances.
We did and that was the difference.
This was a Wednesday night match way down in Kent and there was 2,087 Sunderland fans in a stadium with an attendance of 8,438.
Here are the goal scorers:
Tom Eaves (3)
Chris Maguire (4)
George Honeyman (18)
Max Power (20)
Josh Maja (59)
This was the SAFC team:
Sunderland AFC Starting XI: McLaughlin, James, Love, Loovens, Baldwin, Cattermole, Power, Gooch, Honeyman, Maguire, Maja
Sunderland substitutes: Ruiter, Ozturk, McGeouch, O’Nien, Embleton, Hume, Mumba

Well that was the difference putting the ball in the net. Its like when you win 1-0 with a scrappy goal - it doesn't matter. I will take a 4-1 away win any day

We have to keep the momentum up so if we are to go up into the Championship then winning games like this is going to be the norm - get used to it

I am sure we are all enjoying the football results lately because it makes a big change for Sunderland. Still not the same playing in this league though.
