Help wanted

Post by Neill »

I recently rediscovered my 1973 cup final programme (lockdown tidying) On the day I met several of the 1937 team who signed the prog. However one signature I can't make out except first name Arthur. There was no Arthur in the final team. Any ideas of club players at the time called Arthur ? Tried online, no joy as yet
Thanks

Sunderland has had 4 players who have Arthur as their first name:

Arthur Bridgett - 1902-1912
Arthur Hawes - 1921-1927
Arthur Andrews - 1921-1931
Arthur Hudgell - 1947-1957

We have had no managers named Arthur so maybe it was part of the backroom staff or a gatecrasher.

Any other info?

What does this Arthur name resemble?

Thanks for the replies, I reckon the gatecrasher theory is probably right, a mate of one of the players. Still, pleased to have got what I did.

How many signatures did you get and if you have the time can you say who actually signed the programme.
