Redundancies

Post by Steve30000 »

Any happening at your workplace?

Already happening here, bit of a coincidence that all these firms are doing it at a time when the furlough scheme is nearing an end.

God knows how anyone is supposed to find a job in this climate. It's not just a few isolated instances, it's companies all over the country, so it's going to be really difficult to find another one.

Like many other people, I said that after the furlough scheme ended, people would close their businesses.
Why not, many were struggling before the lockdown and the government's cash just helped them to continue that little bit longer.

We simply didn't need a lockdown like the one we just had that crippled the country.
Their slogan should have been, "protect the vulnerable, act sensibly, keep Britain working".

I voted for Boris to deliver Brexit, I will reconsider my vote once that is done.
Imposing rules under the disguise of "the law" has ruined so many lives.
Protecting the vulnerable from day one would have saved many people from dying from the virus.
Allowing the rest of us to act sensibly would have kept the economy running.

The Tories turned into a cuddly nanny state party and copied other countries blindly ..... and weeks later.

I don't know anyone who has been made redundant so far.
I think we will not get a true figure until the furlough scheme ends in a few months.
It goes from 80% soon to 70% then 60% and then ends around September?
Fingers crossed that economies around the world can awaken together and we can all get back on track again.

If I had to put a figure on LONG TERM job losses, I would say a half a million.
Short Term I would say a million.
Sorry for being negative but I have saw some grim news recently from some big firms like holiday and airline companies.

If the economy doesn't kick back into gear as before then over a million will lose their jobs I guess.

Looks like the furlough scheme only delayed those redundancies, when the point of it was to protect those jobs.

One thing that bugs me is how the prices for goods in the shops remained steady.

According to Boris, we'd bounce back as if nothing happened..
