Queen Alexandra bridge to close to southbound traffic for 11 weeks from Monday

Just as well we have another bridge, but remember that the road leading to the spire bridge from pallion is now permanently closed.

I just noticed the sign tonight and that's a bummer for me because I use it a few times a day.Steve30000 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2021, 13:14 https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/ ... -11-weeks/

It's only to southbound traffic.
What is that stretch of road that's permanently closed though?

There are so many roadworks around Sunderland right now and this southbound closure will add to the traffic buildup elsewhere.

The road next to pallion retail park. So they built that road, and the traffic light that used to be on the corner, and that long stretch of road leading to the bridge from pallion for nothing.Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑06 Jun 2021, 04:49I just noticed the sign tonight and that's a bummer for me because I use it a few times a day.Steve30000 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2021, 13:14 https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/ ... -11-weeks/

Is that what our tax pays for? To waste it on tarmac that gets dug up or not used again? Or on street furniture, just to get thrown in storage somewhere?

I've not noticed any other closures but I will be around that area tonight.
It will be inconvenient for a while but worth it in the end I would imagine.

There's a sign there that says permanent closure. Don't understand the reason behind closing off that access to the bridge.Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 10:12 I've not noticed any other closures but I will be around that area tonight.

That means you have to travel to pennywell on the other side... ridiculous

I was down that way last night so now I understand.
They must be getting close to completing that road system by now.
It will seem strange driving under the Queen Alexandra Bridge and I am assuming it will be a dual carriageway under there as well

It means that you can't get to the bridge from pallion anymore though.Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑11 Jun 2021, 10:23 I was down that way last night so now I understand.

I'm still trying to work this out.Steve30000 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2021, 20:55

So, is it that bank that passes the retail park that will close permanently, therefore, making you go around the long way to the Northern Spire or the Queen Alexandra Bridge?
Surely not because there could easily be a junction at the bottom?

Yep. There was a sign there, and it said that this road is permanently closed. Ridiculous imoSunderland Nut wrote: ↑13 Jun 2021, 09:31I'm still trying to work this out.Steve30000 wrote: ↑12 Jun 2021, 20:55
