I can see a few rear end shunts because of this.

Re: Potential highway code changes?
What! The proposed change set to cause the most issues is a new rule saying motorists should give way to pedestrians about to cross at junctions.

Re: Potential highway code changes?
Correct but the new rules are going one step further, it looks like we might have to treat junctions like zebra crossings

Re: Potential highway code changes?
That just opens a can of worms for people putting unjustified claims in imo.
What's the point of zebra crossings, islands, pedestrian crossings, pelican crossings? Just cross at a junction instead, and if someone hits you, bang a claim in on the motorists insurance.
I always have had the view that pedestrians have the right of way anyway, when you're driving you're responsible for the safety of your passengers and you're also in charge of a lethal machine.
It's your responsibility to drive in a safe way, but you're going to get some idiots taking advantage of this to make a bit of coin for themselves. I think it might be time to get myself a few dashcams in my car, front and back especially to prepare for the false insurance claimants.

Maybe we just can't get our heads around it for the time being.
The problem of rear-end shunts at junctions will happen if the idiot boy racers and the careless drivers ignore the new rules or just be totally ignorant. The new rules should really make drivers more aware of what is happening around them and slow down accordingly.

Re: Potential highway code changes?
You have to give way to pedestrians already crossing at junctions and that is just common sense but I don't think they have thought it out properly.
