Re: 20 MPH Roads All Over Sunderland
St Marks Road needs a 20mph limit because it's too narrow but many areas don't like those in Pallion and Pennywell.
With all those zones in the town now it's not surprising my pizza is late every time I order

Re: 20 MPH Roads All Over Sunderland
I agree that some places need traffic calming measures but how can a taxi driver make a wage travelling at these speeds at night?
The police will have to turn their heads because it's just not on and it's stopping the flow of business.
Not only that but you need to be in a lower gear and that means belching out more pollution and adding to global warming.
Well done idiots!

Re: 20 MPH Roads All Over Sunderland
Are they even enforceable? As far as I'm aware, for the speed limit to be legal they have to have road signs at either side of the road before the limit applies.Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑16 Nov 2021, 12:38 Well, I think I know why I am missing the 20mph zones because they are not sticking a signpost up at the beginning of a new road.
It looks like they are putting a blanket 20mph limit on whole estates full stop with repeaters on the road!
If you live in those areas such as Hylton Castle and have a visitor who leaves your home, they will not know until it's too late, I'd imagine.
I travelled from Pallion and onto St Lukes Road all the way up Portsmouth Road and onto Chester Road and the whole lot is 20mph.
You can understand this between school hours but not in the early hours of the morning.
Never again should anyone vote for these idiots who bring this sort of thing in.
All I can say is that Sunderland City Council must be going to have a 20mph zone on every estate, so if you have not got one yet, it's coming.
Vote these complete imbeciles out!
The road signs have to have a red circle covering the whole number, not those daft square white signs.

Agree with this. They haven't thought this through, have they? They're clowns tbh.Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑16 Nov 2021, 15:22I agree that some places need traffic calming measures but how can a taxi driver make a wage travelling at these speeds at night?

I also thought that but I can't find any evidence to the contrary but if anyone knows what the score is there, please let us know.Steve30000 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2021, 16:47Are they even enforceable? I think I sussed this out while going through Hylton Castle and the rigid signs are only there as you enter the estate.
I will be out tonight and see if this is the case in Pallion and Pennywell but judging how I am getting caught out so much, I suspect it is the case there too.

Re: 20 MPH Roads All Over Sunderland
The only thing I can think of is that they have the painted road markings that are easy to do and are waiting for the signposts.Steve30000 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2021, 16:47

If this is the case then the costs will rocket so I think this is unlikely and they are just having a blanket 20mph speed limit.
I checked Pallion and Pennywell and they are the same as Hylton Castle - just an estate 20mph lockdown.
As for whether they are enforceable or not then the answer is yes if the signs are there.
So, upon entering Hylton Castle, you stay at 20mph until you see the signs for 30mph.
At this rate, the whole city is going to be like this very soon.

They've already gone permit crazy, so now they want people to drive slower than I can walk?Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑17 Nov 2021, 04:30The only thing I can think of is that they have the painted road markings that are easy to do and are waiting for the signposts.Steve30000 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2021, 16:47

Re: 20 MPH Roads All Over Sunderland
If businesses barred councillors from entering their properties to buy what they need, they might get the idea eventually that the public don't like their policies
