Sinatras is closed for good - preserve it?

Post by Nockya »

It's the end of an era wouldn't you say?
The old pub is boarded up now and it will never reopen.
It's one of the areas earmarked for redevelopment and that's a good thing but I have a concern.

The front facade looks like it was a preserved building from years ago with the back end rebuilt onto it.
If that is the case then will the frontage be preserved this time around?
If those blocks are stone then it wouldn't cost much to remove them into storage until they decide what to do with them.
For far too long we have got rid of old buildings without thinking.
So, will Sinatra's front end be preserved, does anyone know?

If it is a listed building then it will be preserved but the whole area is going to be flattened, apparently.

My favourite pub is no more

I agree that the top bit should be preserved, it could be kept or sold to the highest bidder but please, please don't destroy it.
Take it to Beamish if necessary.

Can they not do what they have done to the High Street Baths and build around it?

What was that you said again?

Nobody knows whether the stonework will be preserved.
I have a link to old Holmside where you can see the building from around 1940 - this is currently known as Sinatra's Pub.

Excellent find my friend, that building is as old as Frank Sinatra
Because of that, I hope the Sunderland council save the front features.
