Anyone reckon there will be a one off bank holiday for the queen's funeral?

Or will they put it on a Sunday to nip that in the bud?

According to the official government website, it's at your employers discretion wether you'll be allowed the day off or wether you can have it as another day off instead.

It acts as any other bank holiday, but reading between the lines, it looks like your employer can say no. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Some contracts maybe but I can't see this not being treated like another bank holiday.
I think there will be uproar otherwise.
Double time for some

We are getting a bank holiday for the Queen's funeral day but I think we should have had at least three days. One for the funeral and the other two to celebrate her life and the new King. I think the British government were being a bit miserly there like.

Since we haven't lost a King or Queen for more than 70 years, why did we not get the full 10 days of mourning, with most days being voluntary, of course?

Believe it or not, the UK couldn't afford it.
Just one extra bank holiday has a massive effect on the economy, read this.
So, a 10-day holiday for mourning would not be viable and remember the cost of living crisis hasn't really kicked in yet.
One bank holiday is less than ideal but it is all we can afford.

I might have the day off today!

Aye, a ten-day mourning period would absolutely be over the top.
Would The Queen want that?
Personally, I doubt it!

But they could afford to bail the banks out, or spend billions of pounds on covid businesses, and shut the country down for 6+ weeks?

What about hoying billions at the energy companies, when it would be easier to nationalise them?

They can't really afford anything, all money borrowed for anything has to be paid back, usually by us.
