Shaping Sunderland - Seaburn
Looks like they want to regenerate the Seaburn front area. Not sure if they will turn it into a thriving seaside resort like it used to be though. The olden days are gone when you would simply get a bus to Seaburn for the day in my opinion. People just seem to be far too busy nowadays to do that.
Apparently there are lots of plans in the pipeline and they will be submitted to Sunderland City Council in January 2016.

Re: Shaping Sunderland - Seaburn
The Seaburn funfare was class in its day. It had a big wheel, big dipper, dodgems, carousel, ghost train, the waltz and many other rides. I only went on the big wheel once and crapped myself and never went back on. I remember feeling very unsafe.
If I remember rightly the big dipper was closed because of a bad incident and two people died.
Yes it would be good for Sunderland sea front and Seaburn itself if the fun fare was brought back, after all the land is there.

Re: Shaping Sunderland - Seaburn
The fun fare at Seaburn was great when I was a kid and so was the miniature railway that was there too. As a kid it was exciting but when the last fare was there it just didn't seem good enough. I am sure the kids would have enjoyed it though. Possibly me as an older man now not feeling the excitement as much

I hope they succeed in regenerating the sea front at Seaburn. There has always been potential. I think its more likely to be houses rather than a fun fare. Look what they done to Seaburn Camp bus terminus or turning circle. They put houses on that so the camp can't be safe surely.

Its a fact that Roker and Seaburn have one of the best beaches in the country. Just a shame that the weather isn't as good as it could be. We do get some good warm weather in Sunderland but it doesn't seem to last long enough.

A new fun fare at Seaburn would be great. Somewhere to take the kids in summer. Problem with these places is they lie idle most of the time in cold weather. Maintaining the rides and the rates must be expensive.

Re: Shaping Sunderland - Seaburn
Those houses being built on the site of the old Seaburn Camp bus terminus seem to be pointing the wrong way. They are looking towards The Bents. They still have a sea view but just don't look right somehow
I might have the day off today!
