While I can understand the need for a survey of some sort I don't think they needed to cause so much congestion. I agree with balloting the residents as a whole and not just the car drivers on that particular day. Forcing car drivers to take part in something they didn't want to I find very strange.

Forcing is a very powerful word and the census people used the police to "force" it upon us. The police are nowt to me just power crazy individuals who are scared to death of their own shadow once they are in civvies - fact!
I would hope by now they have had enough returns to complete what they wanted. I was also forced to accept their stupid census cards which I duly threw in the bin. The police were aiding and abetting this force because a policeman gave it to me and said I had to have it. What a pile of bull. Taking their census cards is not obligatory and I didn't want one but was forcefully given one. Northumbria Police - you ignorant bunch of f***. I didn't want a card, I never read it when you forced it upon me and I threw it away. What a bunch of plonkers who have no idea.
Bless the Lib-Dems who have not long posted me a flyer with the headlines "Labour causes chaos on Sunderland bridges".
The Liberal Democrats say NO to more traffic surveys.
Local Lib Dem campaigner, Niall Hodson, for Wearside Li-Dems, says "you couldn't make it up". The local party is urging Labour councillors to use their common sense and agree not to carry out more traffic surveys during rush hour.
After that day of the traffic census in Sunderland we would all applaud the local Lib-Dems for having their say. However, the Lib Dems are not going to be the flavour of the month for having a five year stint in bed with the Conservatives are they.
Still, they asked Labour to use their "common sense", but will Labour listen?

The question should be "have the Labour Party got common sense in the first place"!
The answer would be no of course
From the Labour Party as a whole. I am sure there will be a few people in it that do have some common sense but don't want to speak up. The thing is though, after we saw the members vote Jeremy Corbyn in massive numbers there is a bit doubt about the credibility of some.
