Northern Spire Opens - New Sunderland Bridge - Videos

At last, after a few months of delay, the new Sunderland bridge is finally open to the public.
On Tuesday the 28th August, the bridge opened to the public but only those on foot.
This was so they could have a look at the bridge in safety.
On the Wednesday the bridge opened to traffic.
So, after a wait of 40 years, Sunderland got a new bridge across the River Wear.
It was definitely needed so hopefully it will help cut down on congestion.

Here are some videos of the new Wear Crossing - The Northern Spire.

Great news.
I might be that way tonight so I might go over it.
Not literally you understand.

..... and Sunderland, the underdogs, are in the lead!

I think its breathtaking. If anyone hasn't been over it yet I suggest they do as quick as possible - they will not be disappointed.

I might have the day off today!

Its a lot bigger than I though. Driving past regularly it looks so small but the scale of it when you are driving over is something else. Well done to all involved.

True, the illusion from even just a short distance makes it look strangely small but once you drive over it you realise that it is absolutely massive. Think about it, a dual carriageway with wide pavements is not going to be small. I have even used the bridge when I didn't have to just to have a second or third look

I can't knock it but the lights are really annoying. You always seem to stop around the Wessington Way bit.

Went over it yesterday and its better than I could ever imagine. Saves quite a bit time as well. They reckon at night it looks good with the way they have the lighting too. I will see it in all its glory at night very soon I expect.

Personally I think the lighting could have been better because its not that spectacular in the dark.

Agreed, could have had some fancy lighting.
