I'd like to know how we got vaccines for rubella, and polio, and measles and smallpox, and the black death...

Obviously we're not very good at it
Perhaps they don't mutate and once you can neutralise it then that's it.
The flu is a strain of coronavirus and we can't cure that or the common cold which mutates.
We do have vaccines for the flu, and as for the cold, who says we can't find one?

We've never really tried hard enough, have we? It's not a killer virus, is it, so it's not worth the effort or money

OK in 7 days we saw an increase of just 4.
Remember the days when it was 30, 40 and 50 per day!
The lockdown has worked, remember there was a delay period of a few weeks.

Sunderland now has 1,386 recorded cases of coronavirus.

Most of these people will have immunity by now and only those who caught it recently will still have it.
The danger is over for now until we come together again ;)

So how many actual cases in total will there be in Sunderland?
If it takes about 2 weeks to clear up then we are talking about a handful and those will be isolating.
Time to open the pubs now

The way I see it is if you go all out for a successful, enforced lockdown like many places in China, nobody will get coronavirus so there will be nobody with immunity.
Lifting a lockdown like this will be painful.
On the other hand, places like Sweden that never even had a lockdown to speak of will have many people with immunity.
Places in Europe, the UK and America will have plenty of people with immunity too and can lift the lockdown quicker and get the economy going again a lot quicker.
So, the sooner we get that 60-70% herd immunity the better.
** For the benefit of @Steve30000 I, like the scientific community and governments around the world, believe that we will become immune for life once we catch it and recover.

I like the fact that there's nee proof of that, but if that's what you want to believe

Yeah, like the scientific community.
What we have is hope because the alternative is despair.

In the last 9 days since I reported on these figure there has been no increase.

The figure therefore still stands at 1,386 cases.

We should assume that most of those cases have recovered by now or at least in a recovery state.

If 1,386 in Sunderland have immunity then this is nowhere near herd immunity because Sunderland's population is around 300,000.
Anyone good at maths?
Looks like we are in for a rocky road ahead.
I can't see social or physical distancing being phased out for a long time to come.
I will repeat over and over like most people, we should have shielded the vulnerable and those who feel uneasy and allowed the rest of us to do as we please.
This situation is pathetic as it is because we are just going to have to treat people as if they have the lurgy forever.

What if we get the cases down to zero?

Carry on avoiding each other?

Disinfecting everything like ocd obsessed people "just in case" it comes back?

What a sad, bleak society that will be.
