Aren't we glad we live in a society where police don't have firearms.

They do but not in general.
They do have pepper sprays and tasers but do they still have a truncheon because I've not seen those in ages.

I never thought about this but I haven't seen the police use or threaten to use truncheons in years.

I think they use them to smash car windows open, or if they need to enter any property.
