Server Disruption - Massive Price Hike!

Post by Mighty Quinn »

This post is to inform you of possible disruption to the whole Wearside Online network.

The hosting company that we use has decided to close down part of its service while increasing the costs to us by around 70%.
This increase is massive as you can appreciate.
I've been asked to say that this service has always been free and will remain so while John continues to run things which he has done for over a decade.

The boss says he will continue to put his hand in his pocket to keep things running but will be looking for a cheaper service.
As a result, there may be a little disruption while we look for a new home.

That's a big increase to absorb but if the boss is going for cheaper, does that mean a worse service?

Not necessarily because it depends on this, that and the other.
John knows what to look for.

The current company has decided to shaft their customers so moving is the only option.

Sorry about the disruption.

As far as I am aware, we only lost one post and that belonged to Sunderland Nut when I replied to his post just as the server went off.

Other than that, it was thought necessary to keep the forum off-line otherwise we would have lost a few more until the migration took place.

We are now up and running on a new server.
If you have any issues and think it's down to the migration, let me know here, please.

I demand the post back
Seriously though, well done.
I think I've survived a few of these moves

At least people didn't lose hundreds of posts like before.

I really can't see how they can up the price by 70% because that is shocking - vote with your feet and it looks like we did so hopefully this will work out well for the boss.

Me too but they are necessary because you can't expect the boss to pay that on his own.

What was that you said again?
