I agree that some places need traffic calming measures but how can a taxi driver make a wage travelling at these speeds at night?
The police will have to turn their heads because it's just not on and it's stopping the flow of business.
Not only that but you need to be in a lower gear and that means belching out more pollution and adding to global warming.

Well, I think I know why I am missing the 20mph zones because they are not sticking a signpost up at the beginning of a new road.
It looks like they are putting a blanket 20mph limit on whole estates full stop with repeaters on the road!
If you live in those areas such as Hylton Castle and have a visitor who leaves your home, they will not know until it's too late, I'd imagine.

I travelled from Pallion and onto St Lukes Road all the way up Portsmouth Road and onto Chester Road and the whole lot is 20mph.
You can understand this between school hours but not in the early hours of the morning.
Never again should anyone vote for these idiots who bring this sort of thing in.
All I can say is that Sunderland City Council must be going to have a 20mph zone on every estate, so if you have not got one yet, it's coming.

Are they even enforceable? As far as I'm aware, for the speed limit to be legal they have to have road signs at either side of the road before the limit applies.
The road signs have to have a red circle covering the whole number, not those daft square white signs.

I also thought that but I can't find any evidence to the contrary but if anyone knows what the score is there, please let us know.
I think I sussed this out while going through Hylton Castle and the rigid signs are only there as you enter the estate.
I will be out tonight and see if this is the case in Pallion and Pennywell but judging how I am getting caught out so much, I suspect it is the case there too.
