Sainsbury's in Sunderland Now Charge For FREE AIR!
I normally pop into Sainsbury's in Sunderland to fill up with fuel, normally £65 worth, then check the tyres and top up if necessary with "FREE AIR".
That "FREE AIR" was the thing that pulled me in as I am a high mileage driver.
If I needed some groceries at the same time I would go into the supermarket to shop as well - not any more.
The Silksworth Sainsbury's has taken away the "FREE AIR" and stuck in a commercial one.
Those machines now charge you a pound for this "FREE AIR".
I assume now that the Sainsbury's in Castletown has done the same.
Sainsbury's has now taken away the pull factor for me so now I can go anywhere to top up my tyres with air.
They lose out because I only went for those machines but I now get cheaper shopping to pay for air at other petrol stations now.
Those were the only two "FREE AIR" machines in Sunderland that I know about.
If anyone knows of others, please say so

He's got a point tbf. Why are we being charged for compressed air? Do they not make enough from the petrol?
Disgusting imo

Pure greed, man. Are they charging for the water as well?

I'm sure if you go to places like Peacocks Tyres in Pallion and Foremost Tyres in Southwick they will check them and adjust where necessary with no charge.

Sainsbury's up at Silksworth Lane always had a queue, usually a couple of cars.Rat Scabies wrote: ↑07 Feb 2022, 15:40 I'm sure if you go to places like Peacocks Tyres in Pallion and Foremost Tyres in Southwick they will check them and adjust where necessary with no charge.
Should those tyre places do that then expect a queue, possibly disruption if space is limited.
Mind you, it could increase their trade so I'm all for that.
Maybe they should have a sign advertising "FREE AIR".

No more Sainbury's then. Possibly the best idea is to buy a portable tyre pump, they really do work but are a little slow. It would pay for itself in no time and you can keep it in the car for an emergency.

A bloke at work gave me some of his old gear last night because he is going abroad for two years.
Included in that was a compressor.
It's a flimsy little thing, obviously, they work but this one looks so fragile.
I'll check it out asap.

I've got one of those air compressors... Might pop up to Sainsbury's sometime and use it right outside their own pump to prove a point.
If all the customers complain I'm sure they'd sharp change it

I doubt if they would listen.Steve30000 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2022, 12:24I've got one of those air compressors... Might pop up to Sainsbury's sometime and use it right outside their own pump to prove a point.

On the free air thing, most petrol stations have been charging for years on end, Sainsbury must have been the exception.
I remember when those air machines first appeared and it was only 20p to use!
