I've always wondered why that stadium is called that. If you can explain it, I would appreciate it.
I associate that name with the warriors of light
The Stadium of Light stands on the Monkwearmouth Colliery - an old coal mine.
So the name reflects that mining heritage.
The light bit comes from the Davy Lamp that was used down the mines or pits.
On your approach to the stadium, you should see a roundabout with a Davy Lamp monument in the middle - that light never goes out in memory of all those who died or were injured down the mines.
SAFC reflects this heritage with their Academy of Light and the other sports facility close to the stadium called the Beacon of Light.
There is also the Foundation of Light (education) and the Centre of Light.
Thank you! Now I know the history of the name of the Stadium of Light! It's quite enlightening

Good to see we all still have a sense of humour around here without some of the doom and gloom elsewhere. Promotion still has whingers and whiners
There is just no pleasing some people. At the end of the day, we all just have to get on with it.
