Liz truss defends energy companies profits

Is she for real?
If this is the train of thought in the conservative party, then they don't have a clue what's going on with the public finances.

Profit isn't a dirty word and it's what keeps the economy going, without that and there's no investment, nothing.
What most people will disagree with is a disproportionate price rise in any given part of our daily lives.
We have seasonal price hikes that we understand but fuel prices are just going up too steeply and that is the problem that needs addressing.

And as usual it's Joe public that has to pay for it. 136bn on current estimates, and the government are offering 10bn of help...Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑12 Aug 2022, 16:03 Profit isn't a dirty word and it's what keeps the economy going, without that and there's no investment, nothing.

EDF customers in France pay half of what we do.
Part of the reason is because their government nationalised them... Yet our government refuse to see this as an option

It's taken a Scottish leader to point out the obvious thing to do.

I would never give her credit for anything on account that she wants to break up the UKSteve30000 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:09

I agree that some things are the family silver and shouldn't be touched like gas, electricity and water.
I've just got my £150 so that will go on booze

The money they're intending to spend, they could just nationalise to them, and use the profits that these companies would provide, to pay the money back that we spent on buying them.Nockya wrote: ↑24 Aug 2022, 19:03I would never give her credit for anything on account that she wants to break up the UKSteve30000 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2022, 06:09

It's obvious. But they're clearly "best mates" with them, aren't they? Or they wouldn't be hesitant to do it.
