Mowbray's thoughts on Ross Stewart's contract situation

Stewart, 26, will see his current deal expire at the end of this season, yet there is a club option to extend the agreement by a further 12 months.

“I don’t know Ross’ agent and have never spoken to Ross’ agent so I don’t know who he is. I’m sure he thinks he has Mbappe on his hands.

Reading that, I'd say that his agent is being unrealistic. We'll trigger the clause in his contract to extend for another year, then we'll sell imo.

It's about time we got rid of the rich agents in the middle.
It won't happen though but it is like everything else all about money.

That mbappe comment tells you that his agent is being unrealistic in his wage demands imo.

⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ This comment confirms it for me: ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

“I don’t really know what conversations are going on but I’m pretty sure having been doing it for 20 years the cogs are turning, the conversations are being had. The agent is probably saying he’s worth 50-grand a week and the gap is too big.

“It’s just whether you can get to a point where they think that’s the best deal you are going to get off that club, or we think we can’t pay anymore than that.

Agents will always be around now.
We will lose Ross but there's very little we can do once the money carrot is dangled.

I don't get into the politics of it all but we should be able to hold on to players.

Not when they're wanting premier league wages

I know that. All I'm saying is we should be able to hold on to players but maybe not absolute prized possessions. At the moment we have none of those. We have Third Division players that came up to the Second Division therefore we should be able to hold on to Ross Stewart. I'd say over the years 90% of all those who left Sunderland because they were "got at" or money tempted the club went into obscurity and as a result probably lost more money over time. These players should realise that the crowd at the Stadium Of Light love heroes and respect those who just give their all. With that being said and until we become a Premier League club then we should be able to hold onto players.
