  1. Michael Duncan says:

Surely Vaux didn’t use dray and horses to transport their produce to all those pubs. I remember being stuck behind those in Sunderland City Centre. They looked good but could slow you down a little. I assume they used the horses for those pubs in the immediate area and wagons for further afield?

Hi yes I’m sure the drays were only around Sunderland and as far as the Grotto , near South Shields. Vaux had wagons and tankers. The horses were tradition.

I worked for Vaux on the horses but they only used them for local deliveries.

I am very sad to say I remember so many of the beautiful public houses which are listed – I can almost remember all the visits I’d been in all of these establishments – everything about Vaux public houses was top notch – I can still remember the taste of all their excellent alex

Iam looking for the history the two pubs in Blackhall Mill – The Mill Inn and the Ship Inn, I would like to know when they were built and closed and if they had any other owner than Vaux Breweries ?

This list does not include The Coach and Horses at Annfield Plain and the Commercial Hotel in Stanley both of which were Vaux houses for many years.
