Sunderland AFC confirms that Ross Stewart has joined Southampton.
The striker moves to St Mary's for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to a two-and-a-half-year spell on Wearside.
After moving to the Stadium of Light in January 2021 from Ross County, Stewart fired the Black Cats to promotion in his first full season at the Club.
Disappointing that we couldn't have offered him a contract to stay. One of the best strikers in this league sold, what does that say about our ambition?

It's not to say he's gonna be anywhere near his old form once he is fully fit.
Let's wait and see because there is nothing else we can do!

Don't see why he wouldn't be. The talent is there, players always get injuries.Sunderland Nut wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 01:07 It's not to say he's gonna be anywhere near his old form once he is fully fit.

So many times in the past we have seen player injured long term and never rediscovered their form.
Ross Stewart leaving hasn't left a bitter taste with me for some reason and I just hope the lad recovers well and goes from strength to strength.
It will be some months, possibly six I'd say before he will get back to his peak and only then will we be able to say whether our gamble paid off.
The higher-ups at the club have obviously taken a gamble here.
Once again good luck Ross.
